Combustion Management
Are you looking for strategies to improve boiler run length or control or eliminate ash deposit formation?
Our scientists and engineers have extensive experience in burner design, combustion optimisation and ash fouling. As such they are in a good position to advise you on improvements. |
|
We provide each customer with solutions by:
- inspecting and measuring boiler performance
- modelling combustion, ash and deposit formation
- evaluating slagging and fouling behaviour of coals
- characterising the thermal behaviour ash deposits
- optimising burner design
- optimising online boiler cleaning systems

Case study
Hard fused ash deposits on a gas duct
Our customer, a large power station, had problems with hard fused ash deposits forming on a gas duct. This meant that the deposits had to be removed every few days which greatly disrupted plant availability. The situation was assessed and we developed a solution that allowed normal plant availability of 18 months to be achieved instead of only a few days.
Our customers have enjoyed benefits including:
- increased boiler run length
- reduced forced outages
- eliminated formation of deposits
- maintained plant efficiency
- avoided damage to refractory and heat transfer surfaces

Case study
Ash fouling around a burner
An alumina refinery was experiencing poor availability of a coal fired steam raising boiler due to ash fouling and slagging around the burner. Loss of steam limited operation and therefore caused loss of production. Inspection showed burner design was incorrect and the flame was unstable. Modelling was used to determine flame and ash patterns and a new burner design was developed. The new burners reduced slagging and boiler availability improved dramatically.
