Cyclone Performance

Improved design of cyclone separators

Are you looking for strategies to improve the efficiency of your
cyclone?

When designed well, cyclone separators can remove significant
amounts of particulate material with minimum pressure drop.

We provide each customer with the best solution by:
  • understanding the many factors influencing the
    separation efficiencies of cyclones
  • utilising advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics
(CFD) modelling techniques to accurately predict
cyclone performance and to optimise design
Our customers have enjoyed benefits including:
  • optimised operation - minimised pressure loss
    for required separation efficiency
  • likely flow behaviour of particulate material out
    of bottom cone
  • ability to predict effects changes in operational
    conditions (e.g. temperature, flows, densities)
    on cyclone performance

Design to improve efficiency of cyclone - HRL Technology

Modelling flow patterns within a cyclone separator

Case study

The operation of our customer's pilot plant was being hampered by inadequate separation in an attached cyclone.

Using advanced modelling techniques we tested designs for the cyclone unit. Modelling enables rapid assessment of the effect of design changes on overall operation by accurate prediction of collection efficiency and pressure drop. The selection of the most cost effective option - improvement in performance for expenditure - can then be made.

Redesign of the cyclone achieved improved separation and plant performance.
