Relevant Project Experience 

  • Profitably managed the HRL Technology (HRLT) coal and power consulting and testing business for 14 years. HRLT services all the coal fired power stations in Australia and several international power plants.  This involved the leadership of up to 130 engineers,scientists, technicians and finance/administration staff;
    Examples of Contributions to the Coal Industry
  • Made a number of significant contributions to the development of the HRL Integrated Drying Gasification Combined Cycle (IDGCC) power generation technology. This has included management of Driffield coal mine development over these last 3 years;
  • Developed, raised funding for and managed several large R&D programs;
  • Performed and managed a wide variety of consulting, testing and project implementations in the coal and Power Industry.Participant and/or leader in dozens of brown coal fire and dust explosion investigations in all Victorian mines, power stations and coal processing plants;
  • Member of several coal conference organising committees such as the twoVictorian Low Rank coal Symposium organized by the Victorian Government;Participant and report review panel member for the Victorian Government "Low Rank Coal Roadmap";Member of the Coal 21 working group to develop the National Greenhouse Roadmap;
  • Co-authored chapter 4 in "The Science of Victorian Brown Coal Structure, Properties and Consequences for Utilization";Co-chair of the Australian Coal Industry Consortium, (ACIC) for the Australian membership of the IEA Clean Coal Centre;
  • Program manager of the Low Rank Coal Co-operative Research Centre;
  • Industry Supervisor for PhD studies at Universities;and
  • Participated in dozens of industry forums/think tanks organized by Governments
