The Opportunity

The Senior Accountant will assist the Financial Controller and will be responsible for managing all finance and accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and adhering to compliance regulations. The successful candidate will be actively looking for this “next step” in their career, and will bring with them expertise in financial analysis, budget management, forecasting, and financial strategy to support the company’s financial health and long-term goals. Your expertise and passion as a Senior Accountant will be instrumental in shaping the future of HRL’s business.

You will be mentored by an experienced Financial Controller who has previously mentored many staff.  The opportunity exists for this role to take over the Financial Controller role in the future.

Key Responsibilities

As an experienced Accountant, you will also manage the team of Corporate Services at HRL and deliver a suite of services that supports the thriving HRL business, including, but not limited to:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report any variances.
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Develop and maintain timely cash flow projections to ensure adequate liquidity for business operations.
  • Review Sales Contracts for business approval.
  • Supervise the accounting team to streamline processes and ensure the timely closing of accounts.
  • Work closely with external auditors during financial and operational audits.
  • Analyse financial data, identifying trends and making recommendations for cost reduction measures.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Controller, Company Secretary, Human Resources, Payroll, and executive team to advise on long-term business and financial planning.

About You

You will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or CA certification is highly desired.
  • Proven experience in finance management, with a minimum of 5 years in a Senior Accountant role or similar capacity, and 10 years accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, Australian Tax Office (ATO) compliance, and financial legislation in Australia.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with staff, executives, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in IT matters.

You will also have:

  • Leadership skills to inspire and develop the accounting team.
  • Experience in the financial sector with a comprehensive understanding of financial trends both within the company and general market patterns.
  • A motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, sharing your knowledge and information.
  • A valid Australian Drivers Licence.

Key Responsibilities

As an Engineer, you will work within a team that delivers a suite of services in the field or laboratory, including, but not limited to:

  • preparing detailed project plans, producing cost estimates and proposals
  • overseeing project delivery, preparing and presenting reports to clients as required.

As a Materials Engineer your technical knowledge/expertise will be:

  • condition assessment of complex components and high temperature pressure equipment
  • providing material selection advice
  • conducting failure analysis, materials testing and inspection.

Experience with conducting fatigue and creep life assessments, risk-based inspection and experience in the field of welding will be viewed favourably.

As a Process Engineer your technical knowledge/expertise will:

  • include a solid foundation in engineering principles, process design, and optimization. Understanding process flow, equipment, instruments, and unit operations is also crucial for analyzing and improving manufacturing processes
  • remain hands-on and field-focused to ensure practicality and effectiveness in real-world scenarios
  • have analytical prowess to troubleshoot and optimize processes for maximum efficiency and sustainability.

About You

You will have: 

  • A Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering or Applied Science, and recognized by Engineers Australia
  • At least 3 years proven experience and knowledge of engineering inspections and/or root cause analysis
  • Experience working in an engineering consulting capacity
  • Expertise in preparing and delivering complex engineering project plans and scopes of work and delivering on budgets
  • Recognized expertise and knowledge of practical and theoretical materials engineering challenges (Materials Engineering)
  • Knowledge in the use of metallurgical laboratory equipment and field equipment (Materials Engineering)
  • Technical writing skills
  • Experience in reporting and making recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team to deliver onsite services and work within specified codes and compliance standards.

Laboratory Technician (Mulgrave, Vic) - Expression of Interest Only

Due to continued success and growth, HRL has an opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our Analytical Services Team to assist in the delivery of laboratory services in our Mulgrave facility with full training provided. This role will be multi-faceted and involve undertaking a wide range of laboratory tasks requiring a flexible work approach to meet changing demands and priorities. 

About The Role

Working as part of a busy fast-paced team, the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for: 

  • Providing hands-on support to the analytical services team involved in the analysis of a diverse range of samples including, coal, chars, biomass, alternative fuels, raw materials, soils, etc.
  • Preparation of samples for further testing and analysis utilising numerous preparation techniques including but not limited to sample weighing, drying, crushing, grinding and milling of samples, etc. .
  • Performing some chemical tests e.g., Moisture and ash determinations etc.
  • Entering test results data base.
  • Following all documented procedures to ensure maintenance of quality accreditation.
  • Occasionally collecting offsite samples.
  • Assisting with other laboratory tasks, as required.

About You

You will be energetic in your approach, a committed and enthusiastic team player, passionate to pursue continuous learning and willing to undertake a range of tasks. You must be flexible in your work approach and able to handle changing demands and priorities to meet Company and customer expectations. 

You will have: 

  • Diploma Laboratory techniques or related field or with a keen interest to work in a Laboratory environment.
  • Possess the ability to maintain a high level of quality at all times, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work without supervision and complete allocated tasks on time.

Due to continued success and growth, HRL has an opportunity for a capable and competent Technical Officer to join the team in Coopers Plains, Qld OR Mulgrave, Vic  OR Churchill, Vic.

About the Role
This position will suit someone who comes from a trade background, to undertake a wide range of ad-hoc technical, operational and project-related assignments in the office, laboratory, workshop and on client sites.  

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • inspecting, testing and evaluating structures/plant, using various techniques and equipment
  • documenting and reporting results
  • calibrating equipment
  • testing and tagging 
  • working on client sites; running of cables to Engineers and Technicians
  • setting and packing up of equipment to assist works/projects
  • scheduling of jobs and office maintenance; liaising with landlords, trades, other stakeholders
  • preparing detailed and accurate project cost estimates 
  • maintaining stock of supplies for the laboratory, workshop and office, including chemicals, workshop and office consumables
  • repairing and maintaining laboratory, workshop and office equipment.

It is also important to note, with clients based nationally and internationally, there will be travel requirements domestically and overseas for short-term project work.

About you
You will be energetic and flexible in your approach to manage a mix of technical and coordination responsibilities and handle changing demands and priorities to meet company and customer expectations.

You will have:

  • a trade background and at least 2 years of experience in a technical environment 
  • experience as a fitter and turner, which will be highly regarded
  • broad knowledge of power generation and/or heavy industry 
  • a range of workshop skills (including to manufacture specialised testing equipment)
  • a willingness to travel 
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to provide technical advice to other colleagues
  • ability to develop and maintain client relationships 
  • a flair for science and engineering 
  • proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & related software
  • ability to work without supervision and complete allocated tasks on time
  • a commitment to safe work practices
  • a valid drivers licence
  • current legal working rights in Australia.
